I have exhaust gas leaking out of the connection between the right exhaust gas manifold end the exhaust gas line. I loosened and retightened the bolts but there is still this whistling noise. It drives me nuts. What is the solution here? Do I have to replace the endpiece of the exhaust line or is there a gasket installed that could be replaced?
There is no gasket between the manifold and exhaust pipe. Look at the end of the pipe and see if it has been bent or damaged. Also check the cone on the manifold.
are you talking about the downpipe out of the manifold into exhaust system or the thermactor pipe that goes between the ends of the 2 manifolds and feeds into a check valve before routing to the thermal control valve? If the thermactor pipe, they have been know to rust through or your check valve could be gone...either way it could cause exhaust noise like what you are hearing. There is supposed to be a little gasket between the thermactor pipe and the manifold connection...mine didn't have one when I replaced it, but it didn't leak there without it...when I replaced it the gasket came with it from autozone.
