Another oil question

Bought an 06 expedition a couple of months back. It has 196k on it with 30k on rebuilt engine (got the receipts). The previous owner has been running Straight 40 weight oil, he said the engine builder(well known in my area for quality builds) recommended it for the 5.4 triton. I live in Phoenix, Az so extreme cold starts won't be an issue and with summer here it's going to be 100-120 degrees for the next few months. I have searched other threads for answers but it just seems like an endless rabbit hole. I have seen threads that say heavier oil is bad because the 5.4 has small oil passages. I also read that heavier oil is good for warmer climates to reduce low oil pressure issues that some people see when using the 5w-20. My question is what are the benefits of straight 40 over a 10w-40, 5w-20, or 5w-30?

The oil passages are no smaller in the 5.4 than any other engine. If running straight 40W works and the engine runs good then I say let it be.

Maybe the previous owner thought it was straight 40w but it was actually 10w-40 the builder recommended ? You could just call the builder and ask. I'd run a synthetic 10w-30 or 10w-40 out there as well as a Motorcraft 820S filter.
