Carb replacement?

I have an 82 F100 with a 302 v8. It is second hand to me and the previous owner had removed the smog pump and some of the vac line. It has a rough idle and is running rich and the choke does not work. I am thinking of removing the stock carb and replace it with a Motorcraft 2100 and using only the necessary vac line to have it run properly. Any options or insight would be appreciated. Thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction. It is a truck that I rarely drive. Thank You.

Here is the carb I am looking to use?

Go for it if you do not want to rebuild the carb you have. Just make sure you have a new filter screwed into the fuel inlet. You could dump the old filter out on a paper towel and see how much junk is in it. You could also pull the top of the old carb off and see how much junk is in the bottom of the fuel bowl. If you are getting a lot of brown rust, I would replace the fuel tank also to not ruin your new carb.

For a truck that is rarely used, the Ethanol in the fuel is going to be an issue. If non-ethanol is available to you, it would be a better choice. ISO HEET is a good product for absorbing the water that separates over time from the ethanol. Also, a fuel stabilizer might be in order for you. Best thing to do is to keep your tank as empty as possible, fill it as needed. Like Dave suggest, your tank is probably pretty nasty if no tank maintenance has been applied over the years.
