I have an '17 Diesel and hav a quick question: on the engine info screen it displays idel hrs, are these hrs at complete stop or just when the engine is at idle (i.e. it counts coasting and so on)?
You do realize that you can turn the radio on, by just pushing the power button, with the key off and removed? It stays on for a fairly long period of time...much longer than it does after shutting the truck off.
Ford doesn't explain in any literature how idle hours are calculated? Its would seem pointless to include key on engine off. It also seems like it would have to be more than just while in park.

I agree it must be more then just idling in park. Must include idling at stop lights, drive throughs, etc in drive. Too many idle hours on mine to just be recording hours idling in park.
Interesting and I agree with the above and being stuck in traffic for hours has to count as well I would think. I just checked mine and have 394 engine hours and 39 idle hours. Wonder if that's good or bad. 16K on the truck.
Can you idle your engine with just the key on and engine not running? Lol is that what you’re asking.
Wow. It’s engine idle time. The truck has to be running and in park to accumulate these hours. Coasting and stopped at a red light do not add to these hours. Command start should add to the idle hours.

Ford doesn’t have to be clear in their literature. It’s ENGINE IDLE hours. The engine doesn’t idle unless it’s on.

Thats a low engine idle time for the hours you have. I know trucks that have more idle hours than engine hours. Road crews that leave their trucks running all day, oilfield trucks, etc. You wouldn’t want to buy a truck that has for an example 1000 engine hours and 1500 idle hours. The odometer on a truck doesn’t tell you how much wear is on the engine, the idle and engine hours do.
