FordPass Rewards

I noticed not long after purchasing my truck that I received FordPass rewards, they say its enough to cover the first 3 scheduled services. Its pretty vague on how to redeem and knowing what dealers are participating dealers. Who has used these rewards and what was the process?

I've used them for oil changes. The Service Adviser can look up your points and redeem them

I got points also from my truck purchase - sales guy said the same as above. Just have them look up your account when you have service done.

Thanks, sounds easy enough. I imagine most dealers are "participating dealers". I see the rewards can be used for a vehicle purchase too, I wonder what the $ equivalent is.

Now I need to figure out how to use the 2 free oil changes the dealer gave me and the rewards before they expire.

Upon purchasing a 2019 SuperDuty, I received 42,000 points. According to the FordPass Rewards FAQ, this is to cover the 7500 mile service (11,000 points) which includes oil change, tire rotation, and multi-point inspection. Additionally the 15,000 mile service is identical (another 11,000 points) and finally the 22,500 mile service (20,000) points for a total of 42,000 points for the gasser. Diesel trucks get more points at purchase due to the higher expense of oil and parts during routine maintenance (and therefore the services cost more points).

I took my truck in for the 7500 mile service. When I dropped the truck off, I was asked if I wanted the tires rotated. According to the FAQ, tire rotation was supposed to be included in the first service. The advisor warned me that SuperDuties (F250 and up) cost more for rotations due to the bigger wheels. I informed the advisor that I had 18" wheels, and most Explorers, Expeditions, and F-150s had bigger wheels. If I had known the extra two lug nuts was going to be taxing for the tech, I would have just rotated the tires myself. Anyway, when I got the truck back, I was charged 20,153 points. I talked to the service adviser, who indicated he did everything by the book and I should take up the issue with FordPass. I called FordPass, who suggested I contact the service manager as FordPass has no control over the redemption part of the program.

I'm starting to get irritated at the ridiculous answers I got from the service adviser today, ranging from the dealership charged more because they are a union shop to the program is for passenger cars and doesn't apply to SuperDuty (which passenger cars are diesel equipped?)... As far as I'm concerned, whatever extra the dealership wants to charge for "big truck tire rotations" or the extra labor cost due to unionization should be charged back to Ford.

I'm going to have a conversation with the service manager tomorrow, but I'm not hopeful that I'll get any resolution. Any suggestions or should I just write off that I won't be getting 3 oil changes with the reward points? I'm regretting that I even bothered (I wrote about my failed service appointment in another thread)... I wish I had used the points at the parts department and just did the oil change/tire rotation myself.

You can make a point of it with the service manager by walking him out to the suv's on the lot and count the lug nuts. But in reality you will want to do you own maint. anyway after you are out of points or you could use he points to buy fuel and oil filters or other items.

Don't the points have an expiration date? Say it's one year. If so, I'd probably only get the 7500 mile service and never hit the 15k or 22k within a year. So I guess I'd be beat out of the 42k+ that I've got sitting here. Can they be used for anything else?

I was charged more points because the service guy talked me into "The Works" Diesel service. Total waste, had I known, I would have just had the oil changed and done the rest myself. It was supposed to include a top off of all fluids. When I asked why they didn't top off the DEF, I was told that wasn't included, although it literally says to top off DEF each oil change in the book. They did a crap job on the oil change, I now have oil stains on my new concrete driveway from the oil filter. I believe you can use the points to purchase stuff from the parts counter. If so, I'll use the points to buy oil/filters and do it myself. The points don't expire as long as there is activity on the account each year (pay for service and add points or use points to pay for service)

I have 75,000 points but have no idea what you can do with them. I know you can use them for maintenance and such, but no idea how many points are required for "The Works" package.

I think your spinning your wheels here. Ford Pass likely sets the number of points given, but I have a feeling the dealerships determines how many to charge for a specific service. Hopefully, you love your truck and this will simply be a minor frustration. The service advisor probably hasn't been given a lot of information about the program either. He writes it up, sends it to the shop, takes you to the cashier who runs your points and he's done.

The oil change plus tire rotation and inspection for a diesel is 20,000 points. You can also use points to purchase parts or like me to purchase fuel treatments.

I have been corrected. Ford does set the number of points to be used for an oil change or rotate, not the dealership.

The points have a dollar equivalent, $.005 = 1 point. So, whether you use points for parts, or service, the amount deducted is directly related to the price of that. If you know the price for the service, it's easy to do the math and determine the number of points.

It would be nice if you could use points online and save trips to the parts counter.
