What does this sticker mean?

I have a 1978 F150 with a 351M and I think the mileage is correct at 80,000 just this week. It has very rusty valve covers on it but still well readable is this sticker on the right valve cover that says “Authorized Ford Remanufactured Engine Parts”. So, does this sticker apply to the engine, the heads, the valve cover, or maybe it doesn’t mean anything? I sure wouldn’t have thought the engine had been rebuilt although it runs very well for its age. The PO didn’t mention a rebuild. Just curious. Here’s a couple of pics...

Valve covers were not furnished with Ford authorized rebuilder long blocks, so the sticker means nothing.

So you think somebody just had a Ford sticker and found a place to stick it?

I would imagine that some rebuild shop had rebuilt the engine years ago and used OEM parts. Slapped a sticker on there for customer peace of mind.

So answer this ND, what is the correct situation for THAT sticker to be put on a valve cover? Meaning explain the way Ford did it....way back then. Is there a situation where or when that sticker and what it says would or could apply?

When you bought a long block from a Ford authorized rebuilder, it did not come with intake/exhaust manifolds, valve covers, water pumps, P/S pumps and etc.

These 'accessories' had to be reused from the original engine. Since long blocks did not come with valve covers, there would be no sticker.

Someone took the sticker from the block, or off the packing crate, then stuck it on the valve cover.

Long block included heads, short block did not.

Cool, so that sticker was put on blocks (long or short) after Ford re-manufactured them? And or it came on some packing crates too? What parts might be in that crate...yes I understand some just re-manufactured by Ford? I am tying to learn what the situation was for a "X part" to get re-maned.

If the engine had to be shipped to Hawaii or Alaska, it was crated. It may have been crated for other reasons, like if it was sent by an independent carrier to a rural town in MT or WY

If a long block, the oil pump was included.

These engines were not, repeat WERE NOT re-manufactured by FoMoCo! FoMoCo contracted with individual rebuilders who became known as Authorized Ford Rebuilders.

Here on the west coast, it was (and still is) GPD = Genuine Parts Distributors (aka Tumador Engine), located in the City of Industry.

Formerly located in Vernon, next to the Farmer John Meat Packing Plant. The smell was awful!

What would you expect, since I'm old? I'll be 75 in September, same birthday as California's, except I'm 94 years younger.

No, this is an assembly line....not a parts counter.

The parts mans lament.

I work behind the counter at a Ford dealers parts dept store. Some times I'm called a genius, sometimes I'm called much more.

I'm supposed to know the numbers of bolts, nuts and gears, for every Ford that was ever made for more than 60 years.

I claim I'm no mechanic, but when the job gets sick, the 'expert' comes and asks me...what makes the damn thing tick.

I'm a damn good parts guy, and what not oh my Lord. I'm supposed to be an Edison combined with Henry Ford.

But life would be a pleasure and I'd grin from ear to ear, if the customer would only tell me the MAKE, MODEL and YEAR!

Every day on FTE, I read posts where members ask questions without listing a single shred of evidence on what the hell they're working on.

Must think we're all mind readers!

Bill, I don't know if you wrote that or not. It's good and I think you should put it in your signature at the bottom.
