How much does a 2018 F250 trailer hitch drop with a 2000 pound tongue weight? I need to get a drop hitch, typically would not haul that much load, but I also do not want to buy an expensive curb dragger, hitch or tail of whatever is hooked.
This truck is too damn tall, and the designers have never worked in a truck - sad comment on Ford. They never had to reach over a bedside for tools, never included a normal contractor, never thought about parking in a commercial parking garage, and damn well do not know about blue collar work.I am still struggling to get a way to just reach in and out, ramps that fit in the bed are sky-bound for lawnmowers and snow-blowers.
I'm not a weight police guy at all but a 2000# tongue weight will likely overload your receiver and most any hitch you use with it. If your truck happens to be a 250 with the HD tow package, you can run the Weigh Safe 3" which has a 21k tow rating and 2200# tongue weight rating. They come in 6", 8", and 10" drop. 8" is your best bet.
I feel your pain. I am 6'5" and I still can't reach most of my bed....and I have the small tires.
More capacity means bigger components. Bigger axles, bigger tires, bigger brakes, bigger frame, bigger suspension, etc....from previous generations. All that has to go somewhere, and that somewhere is UP.
Then the soccer mom's get a hold of the cab, and it needs to be bigger...
My F-250 SCSB, PSD with camper pkg - measures 43" from the ground to the top of the wheel well opening. With my TT hitched, 1,100 lb. tongue weight, the rear drops 3". My WDH reduces that by 1". This is what I use to reach most of the "stuff" (primarily camping equipment) in the bed of my truck. https://smile.amazon.com/EVERSPROUT-...-1-spons&psc=1
I have a 2019 F350 CCLB with the 3" receiver. I went with larger tires - Toyo 295/65/20. I purchased and use the Weigh Safe 8" drop hitch. I haul a 16" flatbed trailer and a 27" enclosed snowmobile trailer. I have the drop hitch set about the 6" drop position. Figured if I purchased the 6" drop and needed more I might regret my decision.
Thank you; I saw the stupid fat blocks on it stock, months ago when I had it on a rack. I was warned my extra Ford 100K warranty might be ruined by doing that, and I saw no easy way to deal with the front coils to even out the drop.
Rodney, I only have the bottom trim pkg XL with a 2.5" receiver. I am likely going with the weigh safe, and the 8" drop is now the same in price as the 6", neither are cheap to me. Given that I only have the money to buy this once, I want it to do all I might ever need. Weigh Safe says 10-17% tongue weight, I doubt I will ever have anything loaded that heavy. However, I just do not want to spend money to wind up with a curb dragger should I really move a loaded drag of concrete forms, vs the typical 4000 pounds I might occasionally move, requiring the long stick to keep the trailer rear off the curb.
By the weight drops, it looks like the 8 inch will likely still be 10" off the pavement, even with a 6-7 ton load. I hope I am right, or someday there could be a band saw involved.
I haven't had my 8" drag. The tongue jack on my trailers has hit once or twice but it's lower than the Weigh Safe. That said, Weigh Safe makes two lines. With and without the scale. The one without the scale is cheaper but it has a turnover ball which makes it hang lower when at it's lowest setting and I could see a 8" in that flavor hitting from time to time with that one...
How does the ladder get my lawnmowers and snow-blowers on or especially safely off the truck?
I bought some expensive steps from Amp Research to just try and reach into my toolbox; one failed within a month. I have reached out to the design team to no avail, and must now try and design a solution.
I have also been carrying a ladder in the truck, and keep one at the house garage just for loading the damn thing at home.
Even worse, the old steel weekender occasional ladder racks I had on my steel 2015 bed are useless on the stupid aluminum bed.
Have you ever looked at parking that tall truck into a commercial parking garage?
Tall might be pretty, and I like sitting up over cars to see traffic, but it can be stupid when you put pretty ahead of work in concepts of a truck in the design world.
