My Sticker Stats
light/super light travel trailer, maybe with a slide, and a quality WD hitch.
I'm just starting to look into travel trailer towing and think I need to find out what my truck
is capable of before I go further. Thanks for any advice on what weight
the truck can safely handle.
Take that 2066 and subtract any cargo in the bed, 100 pounds for WDH, accessories added to the truck, and all occupants (factor in future growth) in the cab and it will give you a maximum tongue weight number. Divide that tongue weight by .13 or .15 and that's the maximum your trailer can weigh.
Example:
2066 - 200 (in bed) - 100 (WDH) - 200 (tonneau cover, running boards) - 600 (2 adults at 200 each and 2 kids at 100 each) = 966 tongue weight
966/.11 = 8781
966/.13 = 7430
966/.15 = 6440
That does give you quite a range however, shoot more towards the 13% as this is right in the middle of the range and the tongue weight can be manipulated by placing cargo ahead or behind the trailer axles.
Speaking from experience, towing the trailer in my signature with a 2011 F150, I would recommend staying under 7,500 total trailer weight and keeping under 30 feet in total length ball to bumper. This will be a good size that will be safe rolling down the road.
At the very least, you've got a very large payload in your F150 which is a very good start.

Note that these specs assume a base trim truck carrying 300 lbs. of driver and passenger. The additional weight of non-mandatory options, cargo, and realistic people sizes must be subtracted.
