My brother and another buddy are wondering if I can haul their rigs out to MOAB later this summer.
Looking at the specs I believe I can but wanted others opinions. The most weight I have hauled is my boat at about 8k lbs.
I would prefer a conventional trailer as I use the bed of my truck for work. Trailer suggestions accepted!
Details:
4Runner ~ 6500lbs
4-door jeep ~ 5500lbs
Gear ~ 1500lbs

Thanks in advance.
If you ask a towing guru they will talk about all the calculations for towing. I how ever look at two things.. pulling capacity and payload weight.
I have a 2017 f250 with 3000 lbs payload and 12500 towing capacity. I pull a 10500 trailer with a 1000 lbs tongue weight. leaves me 2000 lbs for people fuel and gear.
It may not be the perfect calc, just sharing what i do.. BTW she pulls it great no issues.
Most flat bed bumper pull trailers have two 7,000 lbs axles. That gives you 14,000lbs that the trailer is rated for. The trailer itself, Probably weighs 2000-2500 lbs, leaving you 11,500-12,000 lbs of cargo.
So your 13,500 is over loading the trailer.
Depending on how you load the trailer, You will have to evaluate how much ends up on the bumper hitch. And ultimately how much transfers to the truck axles.
If you get a Tandem dully axle GN, Your trailer rating will jump up into the 24,000 lbs range. But your actual weight will also jump up to around 5,000 lbs empty. 5k + 13.5k = 18,500lbs plus you 8,500 lbs of truck and you are probably over the GCVW and most GN put 20% of their weight on the truck, Which would be around 3600 lbs for yoyr 18,500 load, Which will over load most Diesel CrewCab SRW trucks
The lightest trailer I could find long enough to haul both weighs 3700 pounds. And it is a $14,000 aluminum rig.
Even if you had someone else haul the 1500 pounds of gear, you'll still be 1,000 pounds over your tow rating before you add passengers and your own stuff.
lol, your technical answer is listed above. Sadly enough we live in a sue happy society, so everyone has to cover their own a$$. Including ford. With that being said, the truck is more than capable of pulling and stopping that load. So with the right trailer, and loaded properly, it shouldn't be an issue. But.......if something were to happen, you could be at fault, knowing that the load exceeds recommendations.

dont know if your interested in doing a mild mod to your rig (still won’t be legal) put the taller F-350 bed block and helper spring under your F250 and you basically have a F-350. Your axel diff hub is smaller and I’m not 100% on your front suspension but. Like I said not a true F-350 or legal but would help. As some here have stated if your Axel and tires aren’t over then your safer then some folks on the road. Good luck.
I've got the 250 in a gasser, and I'd do it in a heartbeat.. But as others have noted, your biggest issue is a big enough trailer that also is relatively light. If you get a gooseneck and get creative, you could potentially push the limits of how much weight you want to put on the truck by running one vehicle up onto the goose partially.. and thereby keep the overall length shorter..
