I know this is a truck site, but i was wondering what you guys think about it. It is based on the DEW98 platform- the same as the lincoln LS, T-bird, and jaguar X type. From the reviews I have read, this is a VERY solid platform and handles exceptionaly well. Some dont like the looks of the concept, the production version looks less "concepty" and is a good comprimise. It looks like we are entering another HP war, and I think that the new mustang and GT-40 will make excellent weapons to wage against the bowtie camp. What are your thoughts? If you havent seen the uncovered "spy photos", let me know(i.e. email), I have them on my hard drive.
Do you have any specs on it? I havent seen a pic of it yet. A buddy of mine said its ugly as heck. He also drives an import, so I have to take everything he says with a block of salt.
Well, I own a Lincoln LS and I love the way it handles. I like the layout of the new Stang, especially those cool gear gauges. I think the rear could use a little more work around the tail lights though, other than that, if they keep the price in the right area, I might just buy a new two seater late next year.
i think its ugly, its nice to see they modeled it after the old body style, but its got too much of the futuristic look to it. i hate the interiors of vehicles these days also. way too many un necessary electronics, buttons and features. and it looks ugly.
Problem with it is the PRICE, with the new platform its going to run about $7000 more then the previous model. Then there's the HP problem, Ford can whip the 4.6 into a lather but the only way it comes close to matching the LT1 is dual overhead cams and 4 valves per piston, and then it still comes up short.
I hate to say it but it wouldn't surprise me if Ford goes through all this work and the Mustang ends up on the scrap heap with the T-Bird in 4 years. The Mustang's main claim to fame for the past 40+ years has been good performance (except 74 to 78) at a bargain price, now the price part is gone and the performance is only as good as a 4 door Lincoln(?). If GM keeps the price down the new GTO is going to be a force to be reckoned with. 350 V8 and rear wheel drive, if the HP wars are fought again the LT1 wins unless the 5.4 is massaged for some power and brought in .
I was reading an article in Car and Driver and it said the platform would not be borrowed (sp?) fom the LS/T-Bird/Jag. They said it would cost too much. It also said the platform would be at least 80% new and will not be using any of the current Fox parts.
