In one of my Car and Driver magazines they had a concept boss 351 (name taken from the '71 model) it had a V-10 in it and it performed great. The V-10 was based on the 5.4 but added a f ith bank of cylinders. The only problem they had was keeping certain driveline parts in it. like the rear end, clutch, tranny etc. Gee, I wonder why?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH
ok, now, are you serious?
here is what WILL happen...
the 05, will sell at least 250,000 units. the '06, at least 200k. that my friend, is a money maker.
EVERY time the mustang has come out in a new body style in recent years, the sales have increased tremendously.
the 87 (which was not even new) the 94 (BAM!) and the 99 all were huge sellers. the 05 will be no different.
remember, the firechiken and scumaro TOGETHER could barely muster 50k units a year, including the v6 model, which was ~70% of the sales....same as the stang btw.
the 3v 4.6 can, and will be good for at least 290hp, and ford has no competition to worry about, so who cares if the LS1 makes 500hp, there is no car for it to sit in.
with the new f150's excellent low end torque, imagine the 3v 4.6 in a stang, with about 40-50 ftlbs more torque @ 2000rpm, even if it only has an additional 30hp over the current stang, it will humiliate it at the stoplight....
My wife made me promise we will have an '05Gt convertible by no later than next october...and she is TIGHT with money.
Originally posted by NascarNut I was reading an article in Car and Driver and it said the platform would not be borrowed (sp?) fom the LS/T-Bird/Jag. They said it would cost too much. It also said the platform would be at least 80% new and will not be using any of the current Fox parts.
The platform is a modified and lengthend LS/jag/tbird deal. Alot of LS parts (suspension, and I hear the base V6) will bolt on. It has almost nothing in common with the S197/SN95 platform currently used. The GT should have 320 Flywheel HP (~280 at the rear wheels) and the cobra may get the 500 HP lightning motor at some point or another. But I also think it would be logical that the old 2v motor will be present at the launch- motors have always carried over with body style changes. Eh, its all speculation at this point.
Just my 2 cents...the pics I've seen in my car mags are great. That's the first muskrat I've seen in years I would consider if I had the $$. But I would wait until 06 when they fix whatever bugs pop up in the 05. They always add options the second year...
i agree with rebel ford....alot of cars have uneccasary electronics. just more things to go wrong and its hard to fix them urself unless u have training or are just hella smart. seems like u almost have to have a degree in computer sience to work on cars nowadays lol
i do like the new look tho...not as good as the original fastback but it kinda looks like the gt off gone in 60 seconds. god how i love that car.
EVERY time the mustang has come out in a new body style in recent years, the sales have increased tremendously
Only problem is this time its coming out with a huge price increase to match the new body style. Look at what the Lincoln LS costs with the base 3.0L V6, about $40,000, a Mustang with a V6 at $35,000 aint gonna sell. Then you add in the cost of a GOOD V8 and its priced itself right out of the market. The return of the T-Bird was greeted with as much fanfare as any car I can remember, and even with all that free advertising its on its way out - high priced and mediocre performance. If Ford would have dropped the Lincoln Mark VIII engine in it they would have had something worth the sticker price.
no competition to worry about, so who cares if the LS1 makes 500hp, there is no car for it to sit in.
You forgot about the new GTO, standard with a 350 engine and rear wheel drive.
In the remake of Gone in Sixty Seconds they added alot of body kit to a regular mustang and made it loosly appear like a 1967 Shelby GT-500. I see where you might be getting the GT from but....
Maybe I just hang around too many cobra and mustang guys.
I do agree that ford needs to drop the price on the mustangs they need to get a base V6 satrting around $18,000 they'll sell like hot cakes and maybe take some of the market away from the rice grinders.
Ford also needs to keep in mind the problem Chevy had. Chevy had the SS (those of you who don't follow the Camaros this had the LS1 and was the top of the line) which was around 32k but a base Corvette is like 42k. That's a decision factor for alot of people especially if Ford makes the Mustang 35k.
If they make the V6 at $18,000 I agree, they will sell 'em as fast as they can make 'em but I doubt Ford will do that. Drop in a Duratech V6 and you would have a good base car. Problem is Ford's gonna plan for the short run and try and get back their tooling costs in two years, thats why I say the base price could easily be north of $30,000 just to much for the market they are trying to sell to. Once those sales numbers start to drop they don't come back very fast.
As soon as only middle aged and older guys can afford (and drive)them, they'll be as popular with younger drivers as Lincoln Town Cars.
There is no way in hell that ford will make a base mustang priced above $20,000; at least not in the next ten years while inflation is somewhat steady.
I have yet to see any prices for the new Mustang but I do agree Ford will not be that confident to price a base model over the $20,000 mark. Depending on how the models run, base, GT, and perhaps the SVT Cobra I would guess the Cobra coming in at the mid to high $30's. The current Cobra is somewhat over priced in the mid $30's and didn't sell as well as preivous years. And this on top of low financing. A GT should go out the door for $31, and change which is a lot of $$$$ of a Mustang. But then who thought you'd pay $40,000 for a truck back when you bought you're new '65 F250? I think trucks have escalated faster than the car market.
