Assuming the belts, etc. in your motorhome is like a pickup, first, remove the 2 or 3 sheet metal screws on each side of the shroud and slide the shroud toward the engine so you have room to work. Don't loosen any belts or bolts, but wedge a shop rag between the alt pulley and its belt, then you'll need a 1 7/8" open end wrench to remove the fan hub. With the resistance due to the wedged rag to keep the fan hub from turning, smack the wrench with a mallet (LEFT HAND THREAD) to loosen and remove the hub. Can't remember if the fan can be removed with the hub or it has to be removed first, then the hub. The rest of the job is fairly self-evident, in addition to coating the correct bolts with Permatex, there's a couple that go through only about a 1/4-3/8 of the thin cover behind the pump so they are easily stripped. Got to be aware of those two. You should have a drain plug or petcock on the passenger side of the radiator to drain the coolant first.
I meant to thank you for that hint about the left handed thread especially.. lifesaver!
I've had a fun life, retirement is lots of time never enough money, the VA health care system is sometimes good and sometimes not so much, and yeah that is me in the Avatar I just uploaded the pet Possum passed away from old age some years back... that pic is like 15 years old too ... I don't do cell phones and all that new fangled crap, I'm just an old skool guy.... I joined here in hopes of getting some answers on the E4OD Computers but ended up disassembling the dang thing myself and fixing the issues LOL
not in Black rock but did some testing around beatty nevada and many other places even places outside of Nevada
AND BTW I was not at Area 51..... but Nevada has many proving grounds, we did military weapons testing outside of Dayton Nevada too, AM General Hummers were all tested there too.
I did work for a Nissan/Volvo Dealership for several years as Head Mechanic/ Service Manager but never worked for FORD... the Closest to Ford was Chuck Missler who also worked for Ford and TRW an amazing man he was

You're welcome. Didn't read every one of the replies but I gathered you're having trouble finding all of the accessory bracket pivot bolts that need to be loosened in order to get all the belts off. If I remember right, there's one on the AC compressor bracket that's almost hidden unless you look real close. It bolts from the back of the bracket directly into the cylinder head.

I did have problems doing it while it was getting dark.. got everything off ..well.... the alternator, thermostat, vacuum pump, fan cover and fan cluch fully off. trying to leave the ac in place (as an just loosened up enough to get the belts off and install the new water pump.) That was a mission right there.
down to finally thorough cleaning of the thermostat housing, engine block (for new water pump install), holding brackets, fan cluch / fan and cover all cleaned up ready for install just waiting for things to dry out and trying to figure out what kind of teflon tape do I need for the little screw in tube into the water pump?? would regular plumbers teflon tape do or does it need to be some sort of high temp stuff?? can I just use some sort of simi or perminent thread putty or gasket maker??

That is pretty awesome history of work and experience there man!! wish mine was that rich in traveling and major landmarks for a living. and I was wondering if you ever heard of a festival every year since like early 90's in black rock desert called Burning Man. its about to go down again in end of july sometime.

Yes I heard of burning man, never been but I used to go to the Camel races up in Virginia City for a great fun time,
and for that Bypass Pipe that you speak of is for the heater hose, ... in the past I have just used regular Plumber's Teflon tape or the Permatex Aviation gasket compound #3 it comes in a plastic bottle with a brush now, used to be in a metal can... but I think either one is good enough, I also use the #3 on the pump gasket, other folks may use different compounds on that gasket but I've been using #3 for years now without issue on all kinds of engine gaskets.

that sounds fun.. camel races?! ...actual camels or is that a euphemism for something ?))
I got some red RTV high temp Gasket Maker and a bit of the Ultra Black ..I hear good things)
....so now the damn plug on the new pump is dead on there ..it takes a 3/8 (if Im not mistaken) hex key and right handed thread ..it appears to be
but it is dead on there and I think Id need an air gun or a heavier tool or what?!?? anyone with advice welcome))
about new waterpumps: the new plugs for the transfer valve can get cross threaded on at the factory or whatever = you will never get it off without damaging tools, yourself and/or the pump. if the plug is breaking tools TAKE THAT $#IT BACK TO THE STORE!

I 100% agree with that, I have never got a Pump that came with the plugs installed... the Plugs always come in a separate bag, but who knows what rebuilders do today, it's been 10 years since I had to mess with a water pump.
