Did Ford ever offer the option for a toolbox that would sit on the side apron of an F100 or F250 under the hood? For years we have had a bottle jack mounted under the hood on top the driver's side apron. We don't have the tool box build into the side of the bed and it would be great to have a place to store tools for the road. We'd like to replace the jack with a toolbox. There is plenty of room so just wondering if Ford ever offered this option. Or has anyone ever done this and could share photos. Thanks
I couldn't tell you if it was ever an option or anything but I've got a toolbox that's been added (prior to my ownership) similar to what you've discussed. It's an old "Skil Drill" box, bolted onto the inner fender. I have mine full of the "most used" tools. It's awesome and everyone that sees it gets a kick out of it.
Sweet 65Navy - I love that patina and its a perfect size. Plenty of real estate on there so I'll be on the look out for something that matches the character of my truck. Thanks for sharing.
You guys have got to stop giving me more ideas to trick out my truck. It never ends.
Now I have to look for a military box of some kind to go under the hood. GI Ammo can would be about right.
Speaking of which, I've got several crudely filled holes on each of the steps. One has three and one has four. It looks like something different was mounted on each one at some point. Any ideas?
I can't find any pictures of it, but somebody mounted one in my 75 F100 on the driver side. Was mighty handy. I'll almost certainly replicate it when the time comes.
Interesting you mention three holes on the box side step. My truck has three holes in that left side location. Actually four holes, one above the step on the box side. I was thinking military fire extinguisher bracket. This truck was an Air Force flight line truck.
The military 5 gallon gas can holder or bracket has four mounting holes. Typical on tactical trucks, but someone could have mounted one on the side step. There is room to locate one there. Just tried it a few days ago. Don't know that I want it mounted there.
I'm thinking there was a quick release fire extinguisher bracket like this. Note the hole pattern on the base. We had these on portable generator trailers.
