Replacement Tires

I have a 2017 F350 SRW CC LB and it is time for new tires. I have 36k on the original ones and tow a 5th Wheel Trailer. Most of my driving is on the road with an occasional off-road for fun. The stock tires are LT 275 70r 18. I am looking for something with a bit more of a weight limit. I am not over weight now and have no intention of getting a heavier trailer. I would just like some more "cushion" in the weight area. My knowledge of things like this is quite basic but I understand that with a slightly wider or taller tire I can gain around 200lbs of weight allowance per tire.

So I am looking for recommendations on brands, models, etc to look at.

Thanks in advance for my upcoming education.

I believe that Toyo/Nitto (same company) are currently producing the highest quality tires available. You just need to pic the model that best suits your needs/wants. I've found that tires are one of those things in life that you get what you pay for.

What are your tire ratings? About 3640 lbs is about the most you can get with that size of tire. If you upsize to a 295/70/18 or a couple other sizes you can get a 4080 lb rating.

Upsizing is what I am looking at doing. So if I go from my stock tires to what you suggest are the new tires wider and taller and is there any problem with fit as far as rubbing?

Toyo and Nitto tires are good , but i think u pay for a name like Toyo and there are better options. Read up on the Falken Wildpeaks.Very good tire for a good price!

I have 295/70/18's, no rubbing at all. I did lose about 1/2 mpg with the Cooper S/T Maxx tires.

Did you have to reset your odometer?

Yes, resetting mph, odometer with new tire size. I am using good year Duratracs. Sounds like you want to upsize to 295/75*18s in a tire like the GY Duratracs, Cooper STX Pro, Toyo. I would look for something in the 4000 lb rating as well, load range and PSI should be max 80 psi for that rating.

How hard was it to reset mph and odometer? Was it something you were able to do or did the tire shop do it or did Ford have to do it?

I was very happy with the Toyo AT2's I had on a previous truck. One of the few 10-ply tires with a mileage warranty too (50k miles iirc)

I did it with Forscan. Your Ford dealer can do it. The 295's are about the same height as the stock 20's, so it is easy to set. My speedometer is pretty close.

I'm using the Cooper HT3. It's a highway tread 5 rib type design. I am 99.5% highway so they are a decent fit.

If you drive in snow I would avoid them. Otherwise I have almost 40k miles with some heavy towing and I am happy with performance and wear. My biggest complaint is I wish they were better in the rain. I am supper critical of wet performance so take that fwiw.

Good to hear there was no rubbing. The Ford Dealer recommended against that sizes because he said it would rub when I had the steering wheel at full turn.

I use Forscan. But yes, you can have the dealer do it as well.

Take a look at size LT285/70R18E, singly load-rated at 3860 lbs. @80 psi. This is a 220 lbs. per tire (440 lbs. per axle) “cushion” over the stock tire’s 3640 lbs. load rating
