I bet that was a loud son of a gun! Even the newer model Onans are loud. And they don't sip gas, they chug it! The RV versions all have a short fuel pick-up tube. Just so the generator can't use all the gas out of the RV tank. Otherwise you would be stranded. And we all know it would only happen at a isolated spot, at night, in the pouring rain, or a snowstorm!
Don't know if those power paks were 1800 or 3600 rpm? Most of the cheapie gensets now are 3600 rpm and stupid LOUD!!! (Like a typical lawnmower) I suppose noise wasn't really a concern with that power pak since it was meant for construction site kind of use.
I have a 1978 vintage 4K RV Onan on my Mack that I run for my race trailer. It's very quiet. Not as much as the newer insulated versions, but I can run it at night and not annoy anyone. Just a dull hum.
