I have v10 2000 ex with 4.30 172k mi solid runner with no noises

is it worth keeping on hand used motor and or transmission?

who does ? Opinions?

there is a good running 2000 motor same miles as mine an hour from my house for $125

and trans for $500

from just wrecked less than average rust f250

i dont have great storage. I’d make a pallet crate tarped

worth keeping on hand ? Or do these old ones give notice when going out

$800 for motor trans and transfer case

Is the electric transfer case same on f250 as ex?

Is the tail shaft input the same?

is 800$ for a good motor trans and transfer case a good deal?

I have a whole spare 2000 F250 on the shelf. Once my building is done, I'm going to start restoring the parts that fit the EX. The motor is a couple but the trans is fresh. Body is rusted beyond repair.

Xfer cases on trucks and Xs are the same. Tail shaft on a 4x4 4R100 is the same across the board as well.

$800 for a WORKING engine, trans, and Xfer case is a great deal.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks

not sure if it’s going to work out.

He wants a 1/2 deposit before he pulls it.

80 miles from my house.

Wants Western union or Walmart transfer.

Says he’s been burned before. Big sincere story, seems legit but If he doesn’t pull it for me then he pulls it for the next guy.

It’s not sitting right with me.

Yeah, I wouldn't pay half in advance. He's trying to sell the darn thing aint he? That means he's gotta pull it eventually. So why does he need cash upfront? At the price he's asking, he can sell the whole kit and caboodle a dozen times over, so it aint like he's taking any risks.

Never ever Western Union, it'll be a scam. Period. Probably the same for Walmart transfer.

Go meet him, and if he wants your money he can have it once it's out and you come pick it up.

...and finally... if it doesn't feel right...it isn't. <or> if it seems too good to be true, it is...

I part out theft recovery trucks from time to time, I frequently keep used parts on the shelf that I know are likely to need replaced on other vehicles. Had a full engine/trans combo out of a $1k copart truck, 3 weeks later, I end up with a theft recovery king ranch with a blown engine, so it works out. At $125 for a running engine, you can't really go wrong. Throw it in the corner until ya need it.

You guys are a kindred spirit

Nice to chat with some mechanically like minded people.

I thought i was the odd ball. Of all the people I am friends with and interact with on a daily basis I am the most mechanically minded and most opportunistic on buying and finding parts and pieces.

I am used to buying things that are too good to be true but usually it’s because of somebody’s lack of knowledge that it isn’t working in the first place. I’ve bought expensive commercial mowers and outboard motors for a few hundred dollars and swap parts and wind up with very useful machines.

I don’t have the Driveline yet but am still in contact with the guy. I told him no deposit cash on pick up only. Just as I have always done with craigslist or Facebook marketplace. He says he’ll have it out next week. We will see. If it really is a scam it’s the most I’ve ever had contact with a scammer

This.
I had a low hour, RTO Industrial, Propane V10 follow me home from work a few years back. It's sitting in a corner of the barn till I need it...or till I give it away.

Update...

So after some back and forth convo I told the guy I was not paying a deposit I thought he was gone. I was convinced it was a scam.

Then he reached out said they would pull it this last weekend.

So so I drove to buffalo and got it last night. Nice guy. Just old and cynical but an interesting guy.

Pulled it by just cutting the front end end of the wrecked truck apart.

So the entire drive line and two driveshafts are still attached and strapped to a big long pallet. Sitting on front cross member still. Has all the accessories still on it so now I have a ton of spare parts in addition to motor trans and transfer case. I think $800 well spent.

I think I need to separate the motor and trans so I can lift it with my tractor. This thing is super heavy.

Any tips with it laying laying on the ground?

Thanks for the input.

$800 for the entire assembly and all of the bits and pieces sounds like a great deal to me!
While it sits, inspect the exhaust manifold studs, should be a lot easier to changed them out while not in the truck.
