This truck has sat under a pine tree for the past 10 years, The vents on top of the cowl are completely clogged up, I opened the lower flap coming from the heater and I have all kinds of debre in there. It's going to take days to clean it all out. So, my big question is this. Is there a way to access the cowl to get all of the crap out?
I pulled out a rubber grommet under the fender. My fenders were off at the time tho. I literally pulled out a gallon bag full of leaves and then blew down into the cowl vents with an attachment on my air blower and an equal amount came out the hole. Mine was an oblong grommet, halfway down the fender.
I took the fresh air vents off and used a wet-r-dry shop vac. Cleaned everything up good. E-brake peddle need to be moved out of the way to remove the drivers side vent.
Well.... that was a success. Removed the rubber plug above the firewall. What I couldn't get, the pressure washer took care of. Luckily no big rust spots under it all.
It sure is, my wife asked me last night. How much you spent so far?.... I'm like... ummmm, well.... I need to add up some thing's, she says. So like $400? Oh yea honey. That's sounds about right. 😓
Yes! Something like that is what I was thinking about. I wonder how fine of a mesh is too fine.
On this topic... I've been trying to find some kind of paint sprayer that has some kind of line at the end with a head that sprays in all directions, to spray some kind of rust preventative down inbetween things that aren't easy to reach. Anyone ever seen such an item?
Take a piece of thin copper tubing or 2 or 3' of brake line, bend over the end and hammer flat to close it. Drill 3 or 4 holes clear thru near that closed end. Flare the other end and connect to sprayer. Like a long reach air tube.
As far as finer mesh, hard part is the install, thru the slits and then security. The 1/4 wire has some flex for install then then flex back with zip ties to go back in a flat shape. I am sure there are other good ideas to secure it with something other than zip ties. Like black zip ties and remember, he said once tight the rotated around the zip head to be on the bottom.
