The stock Rancho shocks on this '03 F-150 are crap. Maybe off road they are OK (I don't know) but on rough road surfaces they are terrible. Hit a bump in a turn at speed and it feels like both rear tires are in the air. I now realize the FX4 wasn't for me but I have it and am considering changing the shocks. On my last F-150 I put on some Monroe Reflex shocks and they were a modest improvement. At least they didn't cost much at the time.
I hear that the Edlebrock IAS are very good but they cost more than most and are harder to locate. They sound like something close to what I'm seeking.
What other good options are there and why?
Thanks much!
My Rancho 9000's ride great. They are 5 speed adjustable. Put them on the 1st setting when im not hauling or towing and the ride is soft. If i haul or tow i bump them up to about 3.
Bilstein 5100 series for lifted trucks. $66.00ea from jackit.com
I am very happy with them, but for proper perspective I must say that my old ones were SHOT!
i would second hardworkingford. The bilstien 5100 series are some of the best shocks around for the price. I put a set on my 350 w/38's and the difference was night and day. They look great and perform like a million bucks. Im sold on them.
I just put edelbrock Performer IAS shocks on my 2002 Ranger.
It is great. It has NO body roll but isnt super stiff and jarring. Also going over bumps such as potholes and train tracks is much improved. The shocks are a bit pricy at 70$ each but worth every penny http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/ias_shocks2.html
Summit Racing has them for 70$ each
