Frustrating Intake Manifold Problems
I’ve got a 77 F150, it has a 78 400 block and 71 or 72 351 Cleveland 4V heads. It used to have a Buddy Bar 351 Cleveland intake, Rochester Quadrajet carb and intake spacers to fit on the 400 block. I was having problems with the carb, so I wanted to put a buddy’s Edelbrock carb on it. I couldnt find an adaptor to mate the Edelbrock carb with the spreadbore intake (the typical adaptor doesn’t work, as apparently the original Motorcraft spreadbore carbs had different bolt patterns than the Quadrajet adaptors available today). I picked up an Edelbrock 2665 351 Cleveland intake manifold, which should have theoretically fit on existing intake spacers to mate with the 400. It DOES NOT! The holes for the intake manifold bolts are misaligned by about a milimeter. Not enough to be super obvious, but enough that the manifold absolutely will not bolt down onto the intake manifold spacers. ARGH! I have obviously screwed up somewhere. My question is, what should I do now? Any ideas? Apparently, the 400 intake that Edelbrock has will not fit on these earlier Cleveland heads. Is there an original manifold I should hunt down, or is there some sort of adaptor I can get that will mate a squarebore carb with the old Buddy Bar intake?? I am beyond frustrated with trying to get this setup to run!
Thanks!
If the old intake fits and a quadrajunk fit's it then get another quadrajunk and run it. it's a better carb than the Edelbrock anyway so you're better off in the end.
I tried to put the old intake manifold on, and it had the same misalignment problem! The only thing that has changed are the gaskets, I’m thinking they may be too thick. Any gasket suggestions? It currently has Felpro 1228 and they are not working too well. Thanks!
