leveling kit
well...after about a year of hunting and replacing worn out parts I finally figured out where my horrendous yet intermittent metal on metal noise was coming from. Got me a 2" leveling kit about 2 years after I bought my truck new (2007). Installed it and had no worries and no issues...good stance and didn't affect handling at all. Fast forward to about a year ago and start to hear this crazy squeak noise...I proceed to replace the sway bar links and bushings, brake rotors, calipers, and then finally it dawns on me...must be the struts...so...got monroe to warranty them for me since they were replaced back in 2012. As I was pulling them off I saw the problem. The what I can only guess to be mild steel spacer discs were slightly distorted to the point where they were hitting the studs on the struts. Installed the new struts and now no noise whatsoever from the old girl.
I did a quick search just to see if they even still make them that way anymore...and to my surprise they do not lol. the closest they have to the style I have is this -
Mine were fully round and the approx dimension of the top of the strut.
Ah well..just an fyi if you see spacers like those steer clear. I think I should have gone with the aluminum units but meh...she's back to riding like her factory stance now so all's well.
