Doing brake maintenance today. What do most folks use here to grease their slide pins? There was no specific "Slide Pin Grease" at the local NAPA store. Is regular chassis grease a reasonable choice? I do not tow trailers very often and don't live in hill country. Thanks in advance.
I wirewheel the pins and smother them with normal grease. Such an easy job, i do it evrty 5k..
Also blast a shot of penetrating lube/silicone in the pin holes as well to help loosenbthe crud. Prior to tightening them down, i actuate the pins to free ur up..
I used to just use grease from my 5 gal bucket but last year I got a little tub of brake grease on clearance and I use it instead. It's more important to not use too much or it will hydro-lock. I inspect the boots for damage and make sure that they're on right. So far they have looked the same the next time I got in there as they did when I packaged them up.
Solid lubricants are designed to operate as solids... think powdered molybdenum, graphite, teflon, etc. The Permatex, in this case, uses ceramic solids.
