After a couple years of using Verizon, I decided it was time to look for a new cellular provider. This comes after I wanted to upgrade my phone. In addition to the phone cost, I would be charged $40 per phone info transfer (I have two). Couple this with the $175/month I was paying for my plan, I decided I had enough of Verizon.
My daughter told me about Xfinity Mobile and I paid a visit. Here are the results:
You need to have Xfinity TV or Internet at your house to join. KNOW your passwords or you will at the store for a while. Per the sales clerk, Xfinity piggy backs off Verizon signal.
Xfinity charges $45/line/month. There were no extra fees or taxes and the policy is month to month. I opted for phone insurance for $12. Your data speed will slow down once you exceed your allowable data usage for the month. Since I don't use my phone much, this is acceptable. Xfinity will only accept credit cards for your monthly payment. This may be a deal breaker for some.
Per their website, I would get a $250 gift card with the purchase of an iPhone XR. The only issue I have with this is that it takes 3 months for the gift card to be activated and then up to 4 weeks for delivery to me. This is odd, since the card was for the purchase of the phone and not the service.
After all was done, I am on Xfinity's plan and am saving about $80/month.
My wife and I had Verizon for years and were paying more then $100/month for a basic 2-phone plan. T-Mobile advertised a $60 special a while ago that was too good to resist. 2 lines, with unlimited everything, for $60/month (including a all taxes and fees). The only requirement was that you had to be 55 or older. We jumped on board.
So I'm paying $60/month now (saving about $500/year). Coverage is spotty in rural areas, but I'm seldom out of signal range for long and only when traveling.
Thanks for the info. I’ve been considering Xfinity when our contract runs out with Verizon. Overall the service is great, but you get nickel and dimed on everything. My package is about $230/mo for 5 lines, but that includes one iPhone “payment” and a few other bumps.
