Did Ford put 429s in any pickups? I'm looking at a 1979 F350 Camper Special that the seller claims has a 429. It's the extra long wheelbase model with the spare tire well in the rightside accessed through a door in the bedside.
I'm looking at a 1979 F350 Regular Cab Camper Special that the seller claims has a 429.
It has the 140" wheelbase with the spare tire in the right side accessed through a door in the bedside.
1973/76 F350 Regular Cab Super Camper Special, 1973/79 F350 Regular Cab Trailer Special, 1977/79 Regular Cab Camper Special (Ford dropped "Super" after 1976) were available with an optional460 4V
The 1969/73 429 looks exactly the same as the 1971/79 460, because both used the same engine block.* The bore is the same, the stroke is different.
429: 1969/71 Thunderbird // 1969/73 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars // 1979/90's 600 and larger series trucks.
Most sellers haven't a single clue what size the engine is.
*Note: TWO different 460's were used in 1979. The harmonic balancer and flexplate are specific to one or the other.
They put it in the heavy trucks but never in the light ones as far as I know. probably it's a 460 or someone put a 429 in place of a 400.
Both the 429 and the 460 are 385 series engines and they're both good ones.
That's what I was thinking, that somebody put the 429 in to replace a 400. The seller claims he got the truck from the widow of the guy that worked on it. It's at a used car lot-hotrod shop-junkyard. I may go back and look at it again and drive it. The guy told me it has a cam? in it, no info on what cam. It has long tube headers and a full 3" dual exhaust all the way back to the bumper.
