I have been searching on craigslist for an engine for my 77.. there are several 460's in the $500-700 range, a couple from the 70's, an '86, and a couple EFI motors.. of course the sellers claim they run, but I won't buy one without giving it a good once-over.
Then there is a guy selling a '72 429 out of a mercury marquis.. guy says in the ad, that "you can hear it run".. that I like the sound of..but he wants $700 for the engine..I've read that the '72 engines are gutless because that was the first year for emission crap..would the 429 wake up a little with a pre-72 timing chain change, and a better intake manifold(and possibly some other stuff?) is $700 fair for this engine? or am I better off just going with a 460?
1975/78 460 E150/350 / Some 1979 460 F150/350 & E150/350.
D2VE heads were introduced in 1972. But without knowing the head casting number from this 1972 Marquis, who knows if these heads are still present or not.
I finally found an engine..decided to just go with a 460..I found one in really great shape, that is about 95% ready to just drop into the truck.. ordered an aftermarket HEI distributor setup, because my duraspark wiring is all chewed up by rats...I just have a few odds and ends on the motor and i'll be dropping it in.
