Well, this is hardly a scientific thread, but anyway....has anyone actually made a pass down a quarter-mile in a V-10 X? I'm interested in trap speeds...took my father's X down the unofficial quarter-mile around here (from the driveway at the Ford dealership I work at to the next road east) and got 81 MPH out of it, which puts it in the 17.0-16.8 second range. That seems awfully quick to me for a 7450-lb behemoth...just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences.
I use my 2002 Diesel X to tow my racecar to the track , and one day my buddies got me to race the truck.
It went a blazing 18.0 at 78mph when it was bone stock.
The fastest time slip I have as of today is 16.60 at 89mph , and this was with a new airfilter , superchips programmer , and an exhaust cutout after the factory downpipe.
Thanks for the replies, fellas! Scott, I'm looking forward to your times, since your X seems to be most set up like my dad's, except his is bone-stock...should be interesting to see if the K&N nets you anything.
And to LANDYOT...I usually pull this quarter-mile stunt at 5:00 AM in the PA hills (although my "track" seems to be mostly level)...not a lot of staties out at that hour. I'm 33, and I've been drag racing for eight years now, so I doubt dear ol' Dad questions my ability, although he DID seem a little irked when I told him his '02 Lincoln LS seemed to be speed limited to 138 MPH.
Fathers have no sense of humor....but it's his fault for wanting his vehicles washed on a regular basis! =)
Pat,
The LS is the best kept secret around !
Some may have NO idea what your talking about with that SUPER sports car ! The LS is THE best handling car I've EVER had ! While adequate for 99% of my wife's driving, it just needs some more horsepower for my 'satisfaction'... 252 HP is ok, but the ls is capable of MUCH more...
The speed limiter is there because of the tires, etc... and can't be overridden... I've not had it up to that kind of speeds, but I'll bet it's just as stable there as at 50 mph !
check out www.llsoc.com for your LS news.... Great site and many more mature 'racers' ...
So we both have the best of both worlds - our super land yatch Ex's and even more fun in the LS sports car !
jdad....thanks for the link! I'll definitely be checking that out very soon, as well as sending a link to my dad, too (it's HIS car, after all).
I gotta agree...it's the best all-around car I think I've ever driven. I lack a little finesse in the corners (grew up driving late-'70s midsize Fords), but the car makes up for it. And yeah, it handles like it's on rails on the top end...add to that I managed 95 MPH out of it in my unofficial quarter-mile, and you end up with a car that runs at least a 14.9 at the strip. I only have two complaints about the interior...can't really use the cupholders for their intended purpose if you plan on doing any shifting by yourself, and on several occasions, my steel-toed clodhoppers have tended to find the brake before they find the throttle....not a lot of footwell room!
Just had me an idea...my dad was a racer back in the early-'60s, so maybe he and I could trailer the LS to the track with the X. He could have a little fun with the rocket, while I could realize my fetish of driving the X down the strip! =)
If your Dad's has the advance track like ours does, while it actually makes it a SAFER car when suprised by conditions, it actually hinders the full potential of the car in that it applies braking to one wheel or the other (among other things) ...
well, betta stop talking sports cars - or our 'land yatchit' ponders will slap our keyboards :-)
Being safe and having fun are NOT mutually exclusive ! It's all a matter of relative skill and conditions.
Those Lincolns ARE nice. I'm familiar with a couple around here. But when it comes to a "fun" car, I'll stay with my GT40 replica ... it's seen 140MPH at Charlotte ... er, I mean Lowe's Motor Speedway.
