I have a 88 F250 302. When I start the truck I would always let it idle and warm up for at least 5 minutes running steady but recently, when warming up the engine, the idle would go up and down then eventually stop running. I would try and start again and it would do the same. I recently changed all the wire etc. Could this problem possibly be the carburetor? Can anyone give me some advice on what to check?
I beleive your engine is fuel injected . The first place to look when you have idle problems is the Air Bypass Valve , It controls the idle speed , removing it form the intake & cleaning it solves the idle instability problems .
It's located on the throttle body and simply bolted to it from the driver's side. Easy to locate, easy to take off and clean. Be careful not to break the gasket and simply use carb cleaner and a toothbrush.
