Has anyone had any luck with the "pre bent" exhaust pipe kits from Jegs or Summit? From what I can tell, my exhaust manifolds are fine, but from the manifolds back my pipes are swiss cheese. So much so that it's keeping me from driving it as much as I'd like because the fumes are just too much.
The truck is a '78 4x4 longbed with a 400/C6 combo and 6" lift. Between work and how far away I am from an exhaust shop, driving the truck to one would be a huge pain.. Plus I've already been quoted more than twice the price of one of these DIY kits. I'd rather just do it in the driveway if these kits are legit..
Who's had luck with a bolt on kit from any of the vendors out there?
I am in Canada. I just ordered what I needed from my local parts shop, new y-pipe and everything. It all went together very well laying on my back in my driveway. I believe the parts were all Walker.
Will I be able to make either of these work with a MIG welder? On top of that I don't have gas.. I just use flux core wire for the very little home maintenance/diy stuff I do.. when I do.. I don't need the underneath of my truck to look pretty either ha.

I'm gonna do mine with a mig ..... I think it should do pretty well.
Besides..... I like the idea of doing it like I WANT IT DONE..... Not the way Pee Wee's muffler shop wants to do it....
$150 bucks and a lazy Sunday tinkering with the truck sounds just fine to me!
Yep, and I can put in some flanges and bolt things together where I want to.
Another idea I am in LIKE with.... It might take a little while but I can say.... "I did it."
I have also been looking at some videos where guys are talking about the "X" crossover VS. the "H" crossover.
(one guy says the "H" crossover sounds better.)
Jeff Ford.... driving a '69 Ford Fairlane wagon..... LOL.
There ya go. That Speedway Motors kit that was linked in amazon, I went to their website and they offer an x-pipe and h-pipe too. Shoot I may have to get fancy over here..
I have the same truck configuration and I installed a kit from LMC. I replaced the obnoxious glass pack exhaust with the complete kit with turbo mufflers. Amazingly, it has been over a year and there is no rust on the exhaust at all, even after driving it all winter in the salty northeast. The bad...it quieted it down so much, I could hear everything else that was wrong with my truck!

Awesome! Thank you for the feedback I'll check out LMC too!

I finally installed a radio and speakers last month.. 1st time I've had music in the truck, it's amazing how many things fix themselves when you turn the volume **** clockwise..
Installed it all today. Kit worked out great and I probably have enough to do a whole other truck if not more. I chose to have them exit out before the rear wheels, but there are definitely enough options and pieces to exit through the rear. Packaging and all was great, no dings, etc.
Now my two sides are not exact mirrors of each other, but that is due to the Hooker headers coming out at slightly different angles relative to the frame. I clamped everything together for now, but will get a friend to weld it up when they have time.
All in all I'd say very much so worth it over the cost of getting it done at a shop. Only took me an afternoon and most of that was me thinking about how to angle everything.
I have a '78 long bed also - but only a 302 automatic. I bought a dual exhaust kit from LMC. Only the right manifold to pipe had to be cut in order to fit. Otherwise, it is perfect. I have the turbo mufflers and it sounds great - not too loud.
