I found, after scraping years of crud off, a serial number on the right front frame rail and wonder if anyone can tell me what it is.
The figure of a star97HC18074Ithen another star. The last image is an I as in Iowa.

I'm a '53-'56 guy, so don't hold me to this:
9=1949
7H=6 cylinder
C=1/2 Ton (F1)
18074=sequence number
I=Are you sure it isn't a poorly stamped #1?
The stamped stars were to prevent tampering with the number and/or to mark the beginning and end.
I was used for 1, so the unit number would be 180741. That would be in the range for a 1949 truck, The rest of the info above would be correct, F1 6 cylinder. And that's all there is to know from the serial frame stamping. If you can see any hand stamped numbers/letters across the firewall, near the cowl seam, we can decode those for you to add additional info about your truck.
