AOD to AODE conversion

Got '88 F150 with 416,000 miles on original engine (no rebuild). Transmission was rebuilt at 200,000 and now it's starting to play out again. Don't want to take a chance on another rebuild. Have friend with salvage yard, but he doesn't have an AOD. Has several AODE's. Wondering if I can make that transition and how much trouble it is?

AODE is an electronic transmission that requires a computer to operate it. There are single purpose aftermarket computers available. Here's one web page with computers there are probably others.
