i was wandering if anyone knows where i can find new side trim for my truck. i just finished painting my truck and i do not want to put the old trim on it with the scratches in it. or what i can do to get these scratches out of it. i have tried weenol but it doesn't seem to work well on this. i appreciate any advise.
Get ready to fork over about $600 to $700 for a complete set of trim.
The trim on my truck was stained and bent up and looked cruddy. I straightened out the dings and painted them with chrome paint and then clear coated them. It does not look as good as new but the cost was only about $25. It was pretty time consuming but I am happy with the results.

If they aren't dented, you can repair the scratches easy enough, and it won't cost $500+ for a new molding set.
Get yourself a copy of "How To Restore Metal Auto Trim", it will walk you through the process.
The hard part is removing the anodizing that is on there. There are some acid based products for doing this task, I have some but haven't used it yet.
My plater did mine. I took all my chrome work to him and learned that he could also do the aluminum. He chemically stripped and polished all my aluminum including the grille, headlight doors, etc. His guys removed all the little dents and scratches, too. He could not do anodyzing, so the shine will fade over time, but all parts look very nice, and they are all original Fomoco parts.

oven cleaner will remove the anodizing, then a lot of polishishing. i was gonna do all mine, but it's not a maintainable surface; more polishing..............
