Airbag Code 51 - SOLVED
As far as a cause, no clue. I bought the truck and it already had the obnoxious beeping from the airbag control module. Guy I bought it from said he went to the dealer and they told him they could cut the wire. Surprised he drove it like that for a long time when it was a pretty simple fix, I'm just happy I don't have to listen to the 5 beeps 5 times anymore!
same here. I actually found a rear airbag sensor. My truck was throwing code 24. I haven’t gotten it in the mail yet but I took mine off the truck k and that’s when I got the code 51 and found my fuses were blown. I found another thread where someone used a 15 ohm resistor 0.5 watt 1% and a 167 C thermal fuse. Since my board is useless without that I’m just gonna try and solder new on it. If it doesn’t work my brother in law has a 96 scrap 150 he said I could take the module off his if it’s good.
Now looking for the direct part number, did you find a module that fit the numbers exactly? Doing some digging and most say you have to match the full part number exactly. Just wondering if that’s true? If not then I may just go get a scrap one. Thanks for your help
I guess my question is, do I need to replace this? I opened it up and it did a number on itself. If I get another module new or used. I there a Reset procedure that I can do?

Your best bet is to find a scrap yard that has one in it and pull it and replace it. You can obtain the parts to fix the old module but if you’re like me and not good with electronics such as this it’s pretty tough. Once you get a replacement, before you put your new module in you need to figure out why the old ones resistor and fuse burnt. For mine it was the passenger airbag shorted out. Some others I have seen it was the airbag harness malfunctioning and needed replaced (sounds like same in your case). Without this board, your airbag may or may not go off in a wreck so it is a safety concern. But once you fix it then put your new board in and it should work like a champ. Make sure you disconnect the battery before plugging the module in. It took a lot of ground work and research for me to come to this conclusion. Good luck on finding a replacement.
And if you do know someone who can “fix” the module, I believe the fuse and resistor specs are further up in the thread.

The only reason I was under the dash is that my break lights suddenly stopped working after being parked for a few months and the shifter was stuck in Park. I was checking #1 and #5 fuses and they were both good. I decided to just plug the airbag connector back in. (no reason why), but that's when I put the key in On position and applied the E break... shifted to Neutral and started the van. That's when it smoked on me! I just stopped at that point and frustrated, I went inside.
I will go check the break sensor switch today and see if that was my original stuck in Park problem!

Good luck! I hope you get it fixed! I’ve definitely been there getting frustrated and waiting till I have a clear mind before proceeding. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve threatened to melt mine down to a glorified blender! But she runs great and I haven’t had any issues out of her for a few years now. Just normal wear and tear.

I'm old school and hate the thought of a airbag slapping me in the face. I'm a very careful driver for whatever that means, and I live in a low population area.
It's been a good van all these years with a nice body and strong good sounding engine with no leaks and such. I only drive it locally about once a month anymore to get groceries or take the family out to eat. I keep it up to par if I had to take a long road trip that i needed to pull or transport something. Maybe a mistake on my part, but I think I will just not replace the module and take my chances.
