Question Air Bag Module

Fault code 51 apparantly its the thermal fuse that gone gaga
Ive located this in the Air bag diagnostic module there appears to be two fuses in one holder and it looks easy to replace, just a case of unsoldering it
Havent got a clue where I can get one from though
Can anyone help??
bear in mind i live in the UK and its hard to get any parts other than service items
the case that holds the fuse/fuses has a number on it that looks like a ford part number but ive had no joy locating it on the WWW.
the number is F2DF14A094AA

if any one can help that'd be sorted

thanx

Thermal Fuse inquiry Update

Just tracked down a similiar problem for my 1992 Lincoln Mark VII. The clockspring on my car was bad and I think these modules are designed to blow the fuse once a fault like this arises. If you open the module (Blue in my case) you'll see a black and white component labeled with a Ford part number F2DF14A094AA that contains the fuse. If you remove the cover, you will find a black 15ohm resistor and the silver thermal fuse directly above.

From what I gather, these units are designed to fail once a fault is detected over an extended period of time triggering current to flow in the resistor. The black resistor is thermally coupled to the fuse. The power dissipated by the fuse will directly be absorbed by the fuse. If the fuse gets to hot, the fuse element melts and opens up causing Code 51 to be displayed in my case.

The thermal fuse on the unit I have has 168 C labeled on. I'm sure this is the temperature rating of the fuse.

Doing a quick search I found a place called goodmans (www.goodmans.net) that sells the fuses. They list a 167 C fuse... One degree shy of the 168 C in my unit.

The fuse looks similiar to this one. You'll have to rebend the leads to make it fit......

And don't forget to use a clip on heat sink when soldering....remeber these fuses are temperature sensitive.... Can't leave the soldering iron on there too long

Best of luck,

-Glenn

There is only one thermal fuse there. The other one is a resistor, and it's used to heat up and blow the fuse when a short is experienced. So, all you need to do is change that one fuse.

Just get a thermal fuse that blows at 168C and you should be OK. That solved my problem.

Does any one know if it permissible to solder in the new fuse with out the plastic cover? I have the new fuse but noted the plastic cover had melted and came apart in pieces after disassembly.
If not can the plastic cover be purchased?

heh never mind. I just soldered the parts back on. Then tested, then wrapped the fuse in electrical tape. Works great!!

This is highly helpful! Any clue where I could find the resistor to purchase? I can't seem to locate a 15 ohm wire round resistor at 1/8 or 1\4 watt. The current resistor is fried beyond recognition. I've fixed the short that caused it, but need the resistor to be able to finish the job.
