Tar and feathered

Last fall the local DOT used the wrong oil when chip sealing the local highway. So everytime I drove that highway my truck got covered in a oil / tar splatter that makes the paint feel like its grip tape. Despite washing the truck 1-2 times a week all winter this stuff is stuck on. You guys got any ideas on what to use to remove it without damaging the paint? A local detail shop wanted $450 to use a steam pressure washer on it... seems excessive.

I've had success using butter. It softens the tar and allows you to wipe it off. Don't know how it works, but it does.

WD-40

Should do the trick, won’t hurt your paint.

There are a lot of "Tar and Bug" removers available anywhere that sells car wash/detailing stuff.

WD-40 works decent, as does rubbing alcohol.
The key to all these, are to soak a rag (or the area on the truck) and let it "soak" into the tar before scrubbing it off.

If you have any chunks of tar...you can use a plastic scraper (I use an old credit card/gift card) to scrape the majority of it off before using the above methods.

In the past 5-6 years, our county has cheaped out and started tar & graveling ALL the county roads in my area. I HATE THE STUFF! I can't tell you how angry I am every time I turn onto a road I need to travel and see the "Loose Gravel" construction signs. I also ride my motorcycle when I can...and when they do my road, that's 2 months that I can't ride! Grrrr!

I used kerosene in the 90's to remove tar and anything else. It strips wax also.

Clay bar?? Don't know about how long it would take to get the tar off. Might be a while.

Gas is your best choice. Like others said. Soak a rag, wipe it on, let sit for a few and wipe it off. Of course wax it after.

Look up CarPro TarX, Should do the trick as it will dissolve/loosen whatever is on there. Make sure to follow directions.
You will want to clay, polish and wax after or whatever you do to protect your paint.

Diesel fuel or kerosene. Petroleum based tar dissolves easily.

I would not use Diesel, Kerosene, Gas and type of fuel on the paint. Can make it worse if not careful....

I have used it literally dozens of times with no affect to the paint at all. Just make sure to wax the paint after. The new clear coats are very durable.

I use this stuff. It is what TxDot uses on their fleet vehicles. I've also used the automotive goo gone and it works well.

citrus cleaner, citrus degreaser, citrus tar remover, spray citrus cleaner, spray citrus degreaser
