I've got an '02 EX, 6.8 V10, changed the fuel pump, fuel filter recently and now having difficulty starting. First thing in the morning the truck starts right away, after driving and making a stop, crank 5-10 seconds before starting, sometimes 2 or 3 tries. Any suggestions appreciated.
While that sounds normal for a GM product, it does seem a little odd for a Ford. I would go back and double check the connections. Electrical and fuel lines if this is suddenly new and not the case before the maintenance was done.
Or depending on the brand of pump, that could be the culprit. Had a similar problem about 8-10 years ago with my Dad's GMC Z71 1500, it was a crappy pump new out of the box. You could qctually count out to 23 Mississippi's before it would catch and start. Swapped it for another new one and took the usual time to start for a GM (about 8 seconds).
Pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator and see if there's any fuel in it. If you don't see any at first turn the key on with the hose off to pressurize the system and verify. Hard hot starting is a typical symptom of a leaking FPR. Alternative test to checking pulling the hose to see, when you expect a hard start, hold the throttle to the floor while cranking and see if it starts quicker.
