First time posting, need help! Timing issue!
I am a decent mechanic but new to ford motors, I travel the country in my old van and I’ve been doing some tune ups and having some trouble getting the timing correct. I went to adjust my timing a few days ago and noticed my balancer has separated and slipped, so I replace the balancer and can’t get timing right. The engine would run smooth in park but as soon as it’s put in drive it shakes and backfires. I replaced the timing chain next and the old one had lots of slack, the new timing helped but the shake and backfire is still there. All Together I’ve got the new balancer, the new timing chain, new timing cover plate, new distributor cap and rotor, new ignition control module, new spark plugs and new wires. What could be causing the shake and backfire? All the new parts have slowly helped but not solved the problem. Now it’s down to shaking only in drive at really low rpm, and a repetitive backfire at all ranges in drive. And it’s a little tough to crank...
