So I am pretty new to the diesel game bought myself a 96 F350 SRW and I absolutely love the truck. I have been reading tons of forums and watching videos and trying to gain as much knowledge as I can. I also know a few ford truck guys and have asked them some things. But I’ve yet to find out what this thing is in my truck. Today I found more of it under the hood. I’m sure someone is going to know exactly what this is.
Thanks in advance Inside truck previous owner says buttons don’t do anything Something extra
I was actually talking about the box that’s plugged in to my cpu...I believe that is an additional one ? And I was wondering about that solenoid? Add it to the list of wires to trace. Thanks
IDM it is thank you something I haven't heard of yet wasn't sure if it was an add on for that silly PTO controller or what? Anyone need a PTO box as soon as I get it removed its available. But first I am going to trace the wires for that solenoid so if possible I can remove that also. With the scanner, sub-woofer, light bar, aftermarket stereo, and a brake controller that doesn't work I have some work to do to clean up the rats nest of wires in this truck. Last thing I want is to lose my truck to a wire fire!!!
The first picture is the APCM module only sold by Ford and not available anymore. It's quite useful for high idle situations in cold weather. Here is a link that describes the operation ...
The solenoid looking thing I have no idea, just need to trace the wires to see what's connected.
The two fender bolts behind the hood spring (each side) might need tightened down. When going over uneven services such as driveways or parking lots the front end will give a loud clunk sound, like a suspension problem. It's just that material between the fender and frame that flexes and caused me a few thousand dollars to figure it out.
The IDM fires the injectors, so that is pretty necessary for the engine to run. LOL That APCM is handy for higher engine rpms, such as when you are trying to jump start another vehicle, warming the engine on a cold morning ect. If you remove it, it plugs in under the dash. Include the harness from the controller to the plug in if you sell the unit.
Keep the APCM. You’ll find it more useful than you might think. Keep it through a winter and if then you still think you don’t need them get rid of it. I’ll almp bet that you’ll decide you like it.
I will keep it for a winter and see how I like it , solenoid according to previous owner might be for the sub woofer behind the back seat. I’m gonna trace the wires make sure and then remove it.
