I have a 96 F-150 with the inline six. My check engine light occasionally comes on and I have taken it to a shop to have it read for a fee. Where could I go to have it read for the cheapest fee or where could I purchase a reader so that I could do it myself?

Everyone else includes their truck in their .sig file so here is mine:
1996 F-150 XLT Pacific Green Metallic
Mods: Perm mounted CB with Dual Cobra antennas, 3" body lift, 31" tires, and a bunch of other smaller stuff.
