Anyone have a pic of their tachometer mounted on the dash? Maybe by the A pillar?
My truck has a PO installed tach clamped to the column. It works, the location isnt bad per se, but i often find myself taking my eyes off the road to look at the tach and was thinking moving it to the A pillar corner might just be an easier transition.
I had a vintage column mounted tach on my 59. I just really ended up shifting when I thought it sounded/ felt right. My Y- block with granny fourspeed really had no need for a tach, but it just looked cool. I am over my cool/ trendy/ hipster days now.

By the way, what exactly is a hipster?
Fair comment. Admittedly I am a newer stick driver and watch the tach more than I should. I'm less concerned with RPM for shift points, that I can go by ear, but making sure i dont bog it or stall at start out, or on a hill I "tach watch".
This truck is the first manual vehicle I've owned but I'm 500% more confident now that i was a year ago and i'm finding it way more natural every time i get in. It's a blast to drive!
Anyways thought moving it up on the dash may make a slight improvement in the ergonomics of it all.
I already have other gauges adjacent to my round speedo BTW.
Well, you’re gonna do fine. That fourspeed (T 18?) is kind of tough to do much damage.
It's an NP435 but yeah. pretty indestructible. I was definitely timid on the go pedal when first starting and found myself shifting too soon at low RPM and too low of speeds. It would of course bog and maybe even backfire/cough. Now i wind that 390 up to ~3k and shift her and and she loves it.

If you have the round std cab dash the column mounted tach is kind of in the way and needs to be offset. Anyway you go shifting that stick needs to happen with instinct not a number on a gauge (unless your racing. then shift lights are the way to go) so try practicing with sound and feel. All the gauges in my truck are for reference only and do not dictate a course of action. Try driving by feel, it's much more enjoyable. Here is my 66 F250 dash, works for me.

So you drive by touchy feely lol. Vacuum tach, RPM tach, oil pressure, alternator and speedo! Hmmm 😂 lol
64, not sure how they would mount to the dash itself, but if by screwing it to the dash, I would never do that. And I cannot recall seeing it done. You can Google it, and come up with some photos, though.
I know you are a new manual driver but really...you do not need a tach to drive manual properly. Learn to shift by feel and hearing.
Totally, yes, I get it. It was more for finding where the clutch was biting pedal travel as i could see the RPM drop slightly. Just helped me get a feel for it. Anyways at this point i don't need the tach like but just thought it would be more ergonomic up on the dash.
