92 ranger 4.0 throws a code 99. It just will not idle. It has had everything you could replaced, I swapped computers put a new iac on, and it just won’t idle. Help!!
I see you don't have any replies yet, so I'll see if I can get things started.
Lots of unknowns. Did the problem come about slowly over time, or begin suddenly after some event? Is it that it stalls at idle, or just a rough idle? EDIT: Is this a auto, or manual tranny 4.0L?
Post up the things you've replaced & if they were faulty, or you just tossed a part at the problem hoping for joy. Also tell us all of the trouble shooting performed so far.
Post any other trouble code clues you have, as they might be able to help focus your trouble shoot. If you have, or can come by a scan tool that'll display live sensor feeds, like fuel trim, MAF, O2 sensors switching range & speed, post up those Numbers too.
Some beginning trouble shooting thoughts for consideration.
It is a friends. It was her dads. It has been worked on by everyone who has a wrench. It goes good down the road, but just doesn’t idle. That code 99 is all I get. I have been looking at breakout boxes but don’t know enough about them. It is auto
No it just will not idle. It doesn’t matter if it’s in park or gear. It will start idle 10 or 15 seconds then check engine light comes on and dies within a few seconds
Ok good feedback. Since it'll idle for a bit, until the CEL turns on & the code pops up, have you or any of the other wrench turners looked into the 99 code = EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) circuit failure & attempted to put it right ? EDIT: I see you didn't say you've tried to start & idle it in "N", so tell us if it'll idle ok in Neutral.
