Jack, I enjoy reading and looking at your graphs. Where do you pull all this data from? Someone like AK4x4 comes into this forum and asks a complex question about brakes and I bet he did not know he would get data tables and graphs rather than opinions! I come back to the diesel forum to glean information.

I need to post a question about the drum brakes in my 98 E350 after I open them up for inspection. If I don't sell the chirping diesel van, I may swap out the axel and entire rear end as the 2004 diesel van has disk brakes.

When the company closed my two test facilities I thought I turned in everything. I forgot I still had data and the software I created on a backup hard drive at home. But I’m discriminatory on what I’ll use.

That van should have the 12” Bendix drum brakes. By ‘98 they switched to our non-asbestos material, but I’d treat it as though it was asbestos. The OSHA methodology for at home work if asbestos has you wet down the brakes with a water-Dawn mix, and you can wipe down with wet rags from there. It would just be safer.

If the axle directly swaps over that would be huge improvement in capability and front brake temperature reduction. If the ‘98 has a proportioning valve it will need to be removed. That may just require a swap in master cylinder, I’d need a picture of the M/C.

I will send you a photo of each master cylinder.
