Question cant get 'er stopped!

my wife's 97 F-150 4x4 shorty will not stop normally when its wet out... upon first brake application.. so if you don't plan ahead ,or practice, you might go right through an intersection...i didnt think much of it at first just told her to keep pushing as you are expirencing normal abs braking...untill it happened to me Wow sh&#*t!! inspected shoes pads drums rotors all 75% brake fluids good no vacuum leaks truck is top notch except this small detail......also no other braking symptoms . any ideas please?

When you say you wind up going through the intersection, do you mean with the tires locked, ABS activating, no braking...... Little more detail please. If the brakes are "working" but not stopping with enough pressure, then I would look at air in lines, glazed rotors and pads.

If they are locking up hard and you are skidding through, then I would look at sticking slave cylinders, dirty or grimy pads...
For either prob I would also check the master cylinder....could be a prob there.

thanks for the reply,BillyBob69! Not wheel lockup at all..hard to xplain feels like antilock pulsating but not really grabbing enough to slow it down doesnt matter how hard you continue pushing. What does help is if you just let off brake & then startstabbing the pedal in shear panic.which accours naturally as you become closer to death.seems to happen only once first application when wet out so if we plan ahead ,practice braking were all right get it straightened out beforehand.

as a dealer line tech heres what i would do. check the rotors for run out "warped" take a rotary disk and clean sand the glaze off or machine them, sand the pads on a flat surface to remove the glaze from them , inspect the calipers and be totaly sure they are free and working. "2 people and a very light push on the pedal by hand" flush all the old fluid out with fresh. sounds a lot like glaze or pressure related. if you also have abs run a fault check, i would not drive it untill it's repaired

What Capt'n Chawlie said..(in a NJ Accent).

He is right....it is real dangerous they way they are. get em fixed fast. But one thing that caught my attention......you said it happens only once during the first time you use em when it is wet out....is there some mod to the fender wells or something underneath that would cause water to be directed to the rotors? If so then change it back or remove it. Almost sounds like wet rotors after going through deep water.
