My 99 SD passenger power window stopped working the other day. It doesn't make any noise of any kind like it's not getting power. Any ideas what to check? Driver's side and door locks still operate.
Does it not work from both switches (driver's door control and passenger's side control)?
If one of them works then it's most likely a bad switch.
If neither switch controls the window then I would start with making sure there's power like alloro said. After that it depends on what you find as to which direction to go.
Fun fact: window control must be connected on the driver's door for the passenger side to work. If you disconnect window controls in the driver's door the passenger door control will not work.
Ok Guys, I checked today at lunch and I have power to the switch and power beyond the switch. Both switched are working and hooked up so I'm guessing that either a brake in the wiring to the motor or the motor is bad.
You can also check continuity of the wires if that is easier than checking for current with the line live.
I agree with alloro that it is probably the motor. The wires don't get bent that much (just the part of the harness that passes into the door from the cab) and the motor is 20 years old.
I will say, though, that the Navy taught me never to rule out interconnecting wiring. There have been times when I was convinced a part was bad and it turned out to be a chafed/pinched wire or a connector needed to be cleaned.
