I reached into my bed with a pair of coveralls on and where my arm rubbed the cab, the paint wore off to where you can see the primer. ford managed to put the thinnest coat of paint possible on my truck.
I know there are car wax type products that claim good for 40 car washes...but im wondering if there are places you can take a vehicle to and they will spray a finish protection solution ?
I was reading about the ceramic coatings. They are supposed to be a layer that is harder than your clearcoat. It will still scratch though, is expensive and it needs to be washed in a specific way to maintain it.
I'm going to go with ceramic coating (Opticoat Pro+) but I plan on keeping my truck for the long haul and it'll be kept outside for the majority of the time. Washing is supposedly easier and since I just took delivery there isn't all of the prep work and paint correction that needs to be done.
I was liking the idea of ceramic coatings too, my vehicles unfortunately have to be street parked and I sometimes go a few weeks between washings. I started researching and found some downsides. First is having to using special water or soap, so that limits where you can wash. Apparently if not used the longevity of the coating is compromised and warranty is nullified.

ceramic coating won't stop scratches or paint wearing .. ppf will, there are several manufacturers of the film and installers can be readily found most places ..
Here is one source that had me second guessing whether ceramic coating would be right for someone like myself. He's just some guy online and Canadian sooo lol, sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Is Ceramic Coating Worth It? Here's The Truth:
I went with the combination of Ceramic Pro™ Gold Package on all painted surfaces which for me consisted of 5 layers of 9H and a layer of top coat plus to include the stock alloy wheels and calipers, 9H on all plastic trim, and Ceramic Pro's Rain on all glass together with installation of XPel™ Clear Bra on the full front (entire hood and front fenders, front painted bumper, a-pillar post, mirror caps and top roof header above the windshield 18" back past the cab lights and the rocker panels from the lower mid-door seam to the bottom all the way down both sides. All plastic trim was treated with 2-coats of 9H and all glass was treated with Ceramic Pro's RAIN. The X-Pel Clearbra was also treated with 2-layers of a Ceramic Pro product specifically designed for it.
I truly believe that the prep work is the key as is the proper application to include curing time between applications. For my truck that was 9-days in the shop for the application and an additional two-weeks following for the curing process (no washing or water contact during 2-wk curing period).
Was it worth it? I'm impressed thus far and most certainly am not having to wash my truck as frequently simply because it appears to be shedding water and common airborne contaminants are not sticking to the painted surface as much as they would have without the coating. That said, only time will tell (i.e. years) if this was money well spent.
The Gold package comes with a lifetime guarantee which does require that I take the truck back in every 12-months for an inspection and if need be a complimentary re-application of the top coat by the shop/retailer that installed it (or any other Ceramic Pro authorized retailer).
I have opticoat pro on our SD, however for the protection you are looking for you a need PPF (paint protection film). I have Xpel on several vehicles, and 2 of them are covered 100%. "Todays" films are really really good.
