this is probably a stupid question. is everyone that currently owns
the new 6.0 happy or wish they would have kept there 7.3
i love my 2001 250 7.3 psd so i thought i would testdrive the new
6.0 and i was very disappointed in it. i drove two different trucks at different dealers and was not impressed at all. i loved the new
5 speed auto but power wise i felt my 7.3 had more power. i realize that they had low miles and were not even close to being broke in and that ford had some programming issues at the get go. i just felt that my 7.3 auto with my powerprogrammer had more power. is the new variable turbo the key to it's power, does it need to have a load to notice a difference over the 7.3. maybe
i'm all wet here but i would just like some honest opinions before i
buy the 6.0 if you go by the old school theres no replacement for
displacement.
I did not have a 7.3 before but have friends with them and I drove theirs and they have driven mine and it felt to us that the stock 6.0 was so close to a 7.3 with 100 hp module, K&N and 4" exhaust that we said the 6.0 will get that much better with the same adds and boy does it ever. For me I could'nt be happier with my 6.0 even with a little computer issue now fixed!!!. YA it will just keep pulling as you add the load on. We even pulled the same load with both trucks and now my friend wants to sell his 7.3 2001 and get a 6.0.
I sold my 7.3 because of how loud it was and bought a Duramax. The 7.3 is a great motor except for the noise, but the Duramax is .... dare I say... a vastly superior motor acceleration and otherwise when compared to the 7.3. That brings me to my new 6.0 PSD. This motor is noticably stronger (but not quieter) than the Duramax. So, to me, comparing the new 6.0 to the 7.3 is not really fair. The motors are from two different generations and use different technology. The fact that the 6.0 is surperior should not be shocking to anyone. As a side note, I have not had any problems with my 6.0 in 3600 miles other than some strange, soft, squeeking noises. The performance is awesome, and I think MUCH stronger than my previous 7.3.

I had a friend drive my truck who has a 1997 7.3 PSD that has the
Banks down pipe, exhaust, intercooler, and chip. He said my
truck was stronger and faster and he was really impressed
with it. He loved the tranny. All 's at this time.
I just recently took delivery of an 04' 6.0 and before that had the 7.3 that I modified with Hypertech III, 4" ex and Airaide K&N filter.
The old 7.3 would kick butt but with the old style tranny I always felt the match with the engine was just not right.
This new 6.0 with the new torqueflite tranny are a perfect match for one another. The tranny seems to better utilize the power of the torque curve and matched with the 6.0 engine it gives me a seat of the pants feel like it pulls as good as my old 7.3 but the tranny is so much more smoother. I would have to say this new truck performs every bit as good as the previous modified 7.3. I will wait awhile before I do any mods but I agree with everyone else this motor will out perform the 7.3 in stock condition.
I am very happy with this new truck and feel it is a much improved truck. If you plan on modifying a new 6.0 you need to compare a modified 6.0 with your modified 7.3, then you will have the answer your looking for. Good Luck!
