ignition

hello all
I am trying to remove my ignition on a 1965 f-250 because
it is just spinning. Is there any where I can go to see
a breakdown on how to do this?

thanks in advance
jason

Hi Jason welcome to the board. I think you are refering to the rotor, looks like a pointer under the distributor cap. But before we can go on an engine size would help determine what family of engines you have in your truck. Most of them just simply pull up off the distributor. Just to help a little.

oh that is simple. If you look really closely at the face of the key hole you will see a tiny circle. All you have to do is push a pin or paperclip into the hole with the key in while holding the back of the switch (since yours spins), turn the key counterclockwise and it should release the lock cylinder from the switch. Chances are that the small tang that is on the switch is worn or flattened out. The tang sits in a notch in the igintion switch hole. A replacement switch can be bought if need be locally or on the site here. Just remember to disconnect the battery cable as the back side of the switch just has a post with power to it all the time.
