2002 Excursion 2wd front coil spring replacement

I have a 2002 ex 2wd v10 that the front end hits the bump stops...

Looking to replace coils with stock to remain stock height.

Having trouble locating them...t he dealership confirms that the spring c ode is H

I found ones on the internet but their codes

2C3Z-5310-KA code B

2C3Z-5310-LA. code. D

From https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts/ford-spring-front_2c3z-5310-la.html?Make=Ford&Model=Excursion&Year=2002&Submod el=&Filter=(e=10-cyl-6-8l;t=4at-4r100)&Location=pd:,

Does anyone know if i can use either one??

I asked the dealerships and they didnt know what the codes were.

Have you checked the vehicle ride height to confirm they are actually sagged ?

the front will easily bottom when the shocks are worn even if the springs are not sagged.

if you need new shock so I recommend the KYB mono max for stock height rigs.

From Pirate's info the stock ride height for the front should be for the right - 4.24in and left 4.72in.
Our 2002 2WD V10 134K has stock front suspension except for a Hellwig anti-roll bar and new shocks: the right is 3.75in and left is 4.25in.
The front end shows no indication of hitting the bump stops and I've never felt it do so.
The OEM gas shocks were toast at 108K, when compressed they would not extend.
How many miles on yours and have the shocks ever been replaced?

108k from the stock shocks is fantastic, so fantastic I would be willing to bet they were not doing much dampening well before they failed to extend, I’d expect more like 50k miles out of a stock shock on a vehicle that was babied....they just are not very long lasting due to the twin tube design, the oil becomes frothy very easy,

It hits the bump stop on the right side only.

Replaced shocks with ranchos 9 way adjustables.

how long ago and which setting do you have them on ?

Find a speed bump like the ones behind most supermarkets and try hitting it at 20 mph on #1 setting, likely bottom easily.
Then try number 4 and see if you can get the front to bottom. Should take a pretty solid hit to bottom out on #4

Might be worth removing the passenger side shock and verifying it is still working by putting your weight in it and compressing it, Make sure that when it is compressing to full that the action is smooth and equal the entire stroke, also listen to it, You can hear them when the oil is junk....make a sort of gurgle sound, Also note the same on rebound, smooth action and not noisy. Me thinks it is junk and needs replacing. Do they still have lifetime warranty ?

I bought the Ex with 104K on it from the original owner and it took awhile to get the suspension sorted out because there was no rear anti-roll bar, the rear springs were soft, the tires were worn and a few of the tie rod ends were bad.
The shocks were probably worn out a lot of miles earlier.
It still has the OEM brakes at 134K, but they're almost gone.

Wow, it was truly babied, 70k on the stock pads is more typical. You found a nice Ex, 1 owner cream puff.

However don’t confuse sagged spring as being “soft” Curious thing about springs is that even as they sag they retain their spring rate.

By "soft" I was thinking when I hooked up our trailer the rear end dropped a lot, 2 1/2"
With the stock F250 rear leafs the drop is 1 1/2".
The overall ride feels better, too.

The stock Excursion rear springs have a spring rate of 410 pounds per inch so if your payload compressed it 2.5” your payload was about 2050 pounds.

If you are using a B code spring your spring rate is right around 1000 pounds per inch when the main pack is sitting on the overload.

Here are the measurements...

Driver side is 3 7/8"

Passenger is 3 3/8"

** i may need to replace the springs... Any idea if the spring part#'s i posted earlier would work? Two different code #'s ??

Have not had a chance to drive it yet over a bump stop yet

Will remove shock and give it a test this weekend

why not used the codes that are engineered for the weight and ride height of your Excursion ?

are you informed about the changes that need to occur to accommodate a longer spring and or a higher spring rate ?

Those are definitely sitting lower than ours.
How many miles on them?
