Okay so I'm going to the Ultimate Callout Challenge next weekend. I'm going to take an extra jug of coolant just in case but is there anything else I need? Operating temps? It's a 6 and a half hour trip. This is my first big trip with my new 6.7. I came from a 6.0 so you might be able to see where I'm coming from for asking this question lol.
Six hours isn't much with these if it's healthy. I think senix mentioned the other day he ran his 2013 for 17 hours on a trip.
Any pain points with your new to you 6.7L so far? Those would be areas to consider.
I always have a fuel filter box with me as well but have never needed to use it. A socket and strap wrench for the plastic DFCM bowl. The strap wrench takes off some of the pressure on that plastic nut when used in tandem.
I have a few basic (cheap) tools and sockets onboard as well.
I don't use my truck for long trips so it's been a few years since I ran it seven hours two days in a row but all I had to do was add fuel. My temps tend to stay <200°F when not towing.
How hot is your tune? I run a 0 HP calibration so that's why I wouldn't worry about a day trip.
I suspect he won't need DEF based on his signature!
I only bring my Visa. The 6.7 is a good motor right out of the box. Check air in the tires. Check the oil and have a good time. No need to bring DEF as there is a Walmart on every corner.
Only problem I've had so far with it was that it was leaking coolant out of dry rotted caps the previous owner put on. They were on the secondary coolant tank and one on the rad too. (egr delete) After I fixed that issue I haven't really had any other issues. Running tyrant tunes 0-150hp I believe. My temps are usually around 196-198 coolant and oil.. and yeah no DEF for this guy lol
Does the fuel temp sensor wire voltage regulate the total increased HP for that calibration? Depending on how it is set, such as with an inline switch, you are either in the low HP increase over 400 HP or at 550 HP total (which is a lot). If you don't know, this is something you need to answer for yourself anyways.
×3 on the fuel filters, extra filter housing and tools. I have no towing experience but I usually fill up my DEF before the yearly road trip to Kentucky. If you want to make your tires last longer, don't keep them at towing inflation pressures while unloaded. And don't forget the half a pack of cigarettes and sunglasses for the trip.

Just go! I just made a 1500 mile round trip to Big Bend National Park. It is very remote. 8 hours there and 8 hours back and pulling 12k. Did not even think about issues. These motors are dang good. Cruise on down the highway as if you own it.
Only a couple items that can leave the 6.7 stranded. The CAC pipe can burst under high boost and it can't get out of it's own way with no boost. If you have a stock pipe, carry a spare or replace it altogether with a much better after market product. It's not a bad idea to carry a set of fuel filters and a DFCM housing in case you pick up some bad fuel and need to change the fuel filters. The housing is known to crack during a filter change and why you want to carry a spare. Other than those three items I wouldn't worry, as long as the truck is in good working condition.
You dont need to carry bits and pieces in your truck. Lift the hood once in a while and check things over. I clean under my hood but i have seen photos of guys engines here and I would be embarrassed to show that. I try to look everything over every time I wash my car. I get out the air hose and blow the dirt off. Use a Swiffer duster to get into tight places. I check the belts , hoses, air filter, check oil level. When going on trips I inspect the truck pretty good just like the trailer. That way i can have a good time. People spend to much time worrying about things I can't believe they even have a good time driving there trucks. Only additive I use in my truck is cetane. I get it at the dealer ONLY. 4 Oz. to 26 gallons. The days of Ford having a crappy motor is gone with the 15/16 6.7. Some of the earlier years had a couple problems but after 15 everything was improved greatly.

Hey Bone, you still have the stock CAC pipe in your truck?
Yes I do. However the pipe blew apart where the rubber hose went under the solid steal welded band. I just replaced that with a spring loaded hose clamp from Ford $50. Works just fine so far. I tow a 5th wheel with mine and all good so far. I am considering replacing it with one from Rudy's though.

Well, good luck with the OEM one. I'm running the Rudy's as well. Good insurance.
are your services current...and I’m not taking about answer being yes if you have 9999 miles in the oil .....espeacilily if you tow, high idle, etc
Ditto on the. Result card and roadside assistance plan.
make sure you can lower the spare and have the lock key
I’d bring a co2 tire plug kit, a strap that can go around the tire, and a good tall hydraulic jack. My sop is to try to fix the flat before I decide to replace it. So while I gave it jacked up, I try to find the cuase of the flat , plug it with the tire kit, wrap a strap around the tire to tighten the tire so it will re- bead , then use the co2 to fill it. You can use a handful of the little BB gun size co2 cartridges, but I went on amazon and bout a few the size of a beer bottle.
first aid kit, cones, flares or flashing triangle lights, etc.
two sets of IDs in seperate wallets
everyines medications
Some supplies is helpful but think about it....I had s coolant loss once becuase the hose piped off..I knew becuase my coolant presure gauge went to zero while my engine temp gauge show all was well....it took three gallons to refill once I fixed the hose problem and I happened to have some of those ford hose clips . If you loose oil it could be too serious to fix so not sure how helpful bringing oil would be...unless your oil filter got loose...then you would need an oil filter wrench. I’ve had brake fluid loss due to brake line problems so having extra brake fluid and vise grips to clamp off the bad hose worked.
extra fuses is a must.
large gauge jumper cables
tow hooks, tow straps, axle wrap straps...to pull people that are stuck out of your way...or trees, etc
if your towing a can of electrical contact cleaner spray to de corrode you 7 pin harness.
battery post cleaning tools and sprays is helpful....I’ve seen cases first hand where vehicle starts but does not charge ....corrosion on battery post.
If you have the battery with caps make sure the fluid is orrery.
Your Truck is 6 years old , me personally would load test the battery to make sure I’m not frying my alternator keeping it charged.
after s few hours do a walk around for funny things and funny smells. I once smelled paint, like the smell of heat proof engine paint when hot....narrowed it down to the rear axle which was hot enough to fry eggs.. I drove it to a parts store and bought some gearboil and a pan to see how much gear oil I had..nothing drained out so I filled it to proper levels. Vehicle only had 70k miles and was not due for greabox service til 90k miles.
I carry some Wilkie talkie cab radios that use rechargeable usb batteries. They have a 28 mile range. Your CEL phone is going to be worth diddly squat in the middle of nowhere or the mountains.
Landers, water, toilet paper, lipstick sized mace, etc.
most folks never use what they pack so think it thru and understand why your packing extra stuff.
