Little Maintenance

So today I decided to do a little maintenance to my truck. 2015 F250 35,300 miles 1970hr 532 idle hours. Its a snow plow truck in the winter and pulls my boat in the summer. Decided I would flush the coolant, change the serpentine belt. and all the plugs. Everything went fine besides one plug on the top of the motor. Bolt holding down the coil pack was corroded in, ended up snapping the bolt in the coil pack. Little work and some heat and we eventually got it out. One thing to be noticed, plugs on the bottom half of the motor should I say were double platinum motorcrafts. Top plugs were just platinum motorcrafts and definitely showed more signs of wear. Top plugs were very dry coming out. Most important thing I noticed was that all the lower bolts on my valve covers on both sides of the block were completely corroded away... Not even there anymore. I have one month left on the powertrain warranty im going to call ford and see what they have to say about it. Truck is meticulously maintained and washed. Very minimal rust on the truck at all. Just stumped to see the valve covers looking the way they do. Wondering what Ford is going to say about this?

my bet is it was from salt spray getting into the engine bay and not washed off the engine.
i see it on a lot of plow trucks here in New Jersey.

Sad thing is that the truck and the motor are washed immediately after any snow event

Well something from winter/salt caused it. My 2011 has never been winter driven and it's spotless. Zero corrosion issues.

Obviously something caused it to rust, just amazing how there's no rust any where else and just so happens that those bolts completely deteriorated. Going to see what ford has to say before my powertrain is up.

I hope they might help you out but don't be surprised if they don't. Espescially on a plow truck. I commercial plow contracted for ten years and was always amazed at the damage it did to trucks. Specifically the front end/engine compartment. The blades kick up a lot of crap into that area.

washing does NOT remove all the salt... it sits and eats

50 years as a mechanic... Cleveland Ohio.... salt eats everything...

plow trucks are a Bit** to work on after 2 years... regardless of care.. or washing.

you truck is showing you just how hard plowing is on a truck

just a case in point.. Ford calls for first spark plug replacement at 90,000 miles

I moved to Texas 8 months ago. I retired.

Says plugs should be changed at 60k under severe duty. I wanted to change them a little early Incase it had the same problem as the 5.4s getting stuck in.

''

you are correct..
my opinion.

snow plowing is very hard on trucks...engines, transmissions, suspensions, steering, Rust,

to the point... replacing cylinder heads...or rethreading spark plug holes... from spark plugs rusted SOLID to the heads... on 3-4 year old trucks.

I worked in Ohio for a couple years. Never seen more than a deep south TX winter. Those winters blew me away. Never again. Smart man moving away from winter. Now if we could just get the transplants to NOT vote like a bunch of communists and try to take our guns away would make up for them moving here.
