2014 5L - I got a engine light - Code reader read O2 sensor fault voltage low. Reset and it came back after 20 KM. I took it to the garage and they replaced the Downstream O2 sensor - 310.00 total. Diagnostic = 100.00, NGK O2 part = 110.00 and labour 100.00.
Noticed an improvement in KM/L went from 13 down to 11 L/100KM.
Truck has 275,000 KM and running strong. Any advice as to if I should replace the other 3 O2 sensors? Google search NGK O2, says O2 should last at least 160,000 km/ 100,000 MILES. Last Spark plug change was 160,000. Mostly highway driving 70,000 KM/ year.
Any idea of the life span of fuel injectors???
Thank you, Tim
Spark plugs could certainly be replaced at this point as they are likely showing pretty good wear at this point.
Fuel injectors rarely fail. They can get dirty but even this is rare in a daily driver vehicle. It's more common in vehicles where the fuel sits in the injectors for a long time and can turn to varnish. When injectors actually fail they lock wide open or completely closed and that cylinder stops functioning completely.
There isn't really a good reason for the o2 sensor change to kill your mileage without some other oddity going on as well. I doubt replacing the other sensors will make much of a difference.
a 2014 has wideband o2s not narrow bands but the narrow bands are used in fore aft oxygen sensor correction to correct the wide bands as they age. All of the o2s should be changed if they are originals as they directly affect air fuel ratio.
I have seen numerous injectors that are partially clogged where they don't close all the way and you see enriched fueling.
I just had the most difficult and expensive O2 sensor on my 2011 ecoboost replaced during the winter. I asked the dealer if I should replace them all or at least replace them in pairs and the tech said no. He stated that the others may never go out but he would if I insisted. So, I followed his advice instead of just throwing parts at it to mitigate possible future incidents.
