Buying my first inline 6
Hey everyone, I am looking at this 1987 F-250 here are all of the specs. Just need some help with all of the verbiage. I am a military carpenter and am looking to get into the handyman business. I have owned an in-line 6 in the past (1988 Land Cruiser.) I saw this truck on craigslist. I thought with the power from the engine and the 3/4 ton chassis I should be good to do about anything. I am not out to pull a camper or drag race this truck. I would like any opinions please. The owner is asking $2600

If he has recently put so much $ into the truck, why is he selling it? It seems like he threw a bunch of new parts at it, and maybe it still doesn't run how he had expected it would, so now he's trying to dump it. That might not be his story, but I'd rather buy a truck from someone who has owned and consistently maintained the truck for many years. I think a careful inspection of the vehicle should tell you a fair amount about it. I'd check for oil leaks at the differential, engine, transmission. I'd ask the engine be cold when you visit to hear a cold start. I'd connect a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold and watch for low, erratic or fluctuating vacuum. If the seller isn't willing to let you spend time inspecting and driving the vehicle, I'd pass.
